Ports Authority (TPA) on Saturday signed a contract with China Harbour
Construction Engineering (CHCE) for design, deepening and strengthening
of the Dar es Salaam port.
The contract was signed by the TPA Director General Eng Deusdedith Kakoko on behalf of the government and witnessed by the Minister for Works, Transport and Communication Prof Makame Mbarawa.
The project will involve expansion of the berths number 1 to 7 and port terminal. Prof Mbarawa said the project is worth sh334 billion and will be constructed in a period of 36 months.
However, he said the government is negotiating with the contractor on the possibility to reduce construction time and cost.
